Can someone please explain usage of the DB Field option on System Configuration -> System Settings

DB Field feature is added for convenience to allow putting the system setting's database field ID in the database and to subsequently refer to it by the name, not the ID, in the code. In other words, when you need to refer to this database field, you may type this field's ID manually by looking it up in a separate interface (phpmyadmin, for instance), or you may select the field's name from a drop-down box.
